Essential Business Tax Deadlines for January 2026

With the arrival of January 2026, it's crucial for businesses, employers, farmers, and fishermen to be aware of key tax deadlines. Well-planned tax compliance can ensure a smooth tax season and help you avoid any last-minute rush or penalties.

January 15 - Employer’s Monthly Deposit Due

If you are an employer subject to monthly deposit rules, mark January 15 on your calendar as the deadline to deposit Social Security, Medicare, and withheld income tax for December 2025. Additionally, for nonpayroll withholding, ensure your December deposits are completed by this date if the monthly rule applies. Remember, tax deposits must be made electronically unless your deposit liability is under $2,500 for a return period, in which case you have the option to remit payments quarterly or annually alongside the return. January 15 - Farmers and Fishermen

For those in the farming and fishing industries, January 15 requires action to pay your estimated tax for 2025 via Form 1040-ES. If you miss this date, you must file your 2025 income tax return using Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR and pay any tax owed by March 2, 2026, in order to sidestep the estimated tax penalty.

Considerations for Weekends & Holidays

Keep in mind, if a due date coincides with a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, it is automatically extended to the subsequent business day that is not a holiday.

Disaster Area Extensions

In instances where a geographic location is designated as a disaster area, filing deadlines are extended.
